Big games in Rome and Liverpool
With the international football break over, it’s time to return to domestic football again, and we’ve got a few big games coming up this weekend! Liverpool host Man Utd on Sunday, while Inter are away at Roma Saturday evening. Let’s take a closer look at some of this weekend’s football highlights!
We recently look at the status of the PL seven matches into the new season, with Arsenal top of the league ahead of Liverpool and Man City. After an entertaining week of WC qualifiers, we now turn our eyes back towards the domestic football, and there are plenty of big games coming up from across the continent. Here are four matches we’re looking forward to a little bit extra this weekend!
Nottingham Forest – Chelsea
City Ground, Saturday @ 13:30
Nottingham Forest host Chelsea in Saturday’s early fixture from the PL, with the visitors clear odds favourites. The hosts have struggled this season, languishing just above the relegation zone with only one win in their first seven matches. Ange Postecoglou would’ve certainly hoped for a better start at his new club after arriving in early September, but going his first seven matches without a win have already put pressure on the Australian manager. Taking on the reigning Club World Champions is probably not what the charismatic manager would’ve wanted this weekend, but he’ll be hoping to see a reaction from his team after their disappointing start to the season. The home team will have to make do without Ola Aina, who is out injured, while Zinchenko and Douglas Luiz are uncertain. Nottingham Forest lost 0-1 at home to Chelsea in the final match of the 24/25 season last time these two teams met.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea haven’t had the best start to the season either, and there are a few injury worries in the squad leading up to the weekend. Both Enzo Fernandez and Reece James should be ready for the weekend, while Chalobah is back from suspension. Palmer is another player the Chelsea supporters would like to see find his form again after struggling with injuries this season. The vistors are favourites in this match, but they’ll have to be at their best to ensure victory, with the hosts hungry to finally grab their first win of the season.
Nottingham Forest – 3.75
Draw – 3.85
Chelsea – 1.95
Bayern Munich – Borussia Dortmund
Allianz Arena, Saturday @ 18:30
It’s time for the first ‘Der Klassiker’ of the season in the German top division, with Bayern Munich hoping to extend their perfect start to the season. The league favourites have won all of their 6 matches so far, and they’re certainly favourites to win this weekend as well. Harry Kane is banging in the goals (11 goals in 6 games so far), and he’ll be hoping to add to that on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund are currently 2nd in the standings, 4 points behind their rivals. A win in Munich would put them just one point behind the title holders, but you’d expect the home team to ensure that doesn’t happen. Top scorer Guirassy have scored 4 goals in five matches so far, with Luis Diaz of Bayern Munich ahead of him in the top scorer charts by one goal. No matter the result, this seems like the perfect match in the German top division after the international break, and expectations are high!
Bayern Munich – 1.34
Draw – 5.40
Borussia Dortmund – 8.30
AS Roma – Inter
Stadio Olimpico, Saturday @ 20:45
AS Roma have had a strong start to the new season, with Gasperini’s team flying out of the gates. Five wins from their first 6 matches has seen them joint 1st in the league together with title holder Napoli. Despite their impressive point tally, the capital club have struggled to score goals, with only 7 goals in their first 6 matches, meaning the over/under goal market could be interesting ahead of this match. Add to that the fact that Inter’s goal difference so far is 17-8, this feels like a match that could swing both ways, both in terms of the outcome and goals.
A win for the home team here will put them six points clear of Inter already, and it would fuel the talk of Roma being a dark horse in Italy this season. One thing Gasperini will need is more goals from his strikers, though, with both Dovbyk and newcomer Evan Ferguson struggling to find consistency in front of goal.
Inter on the other side have both Thuram and Martínez on 3 goals so far this season, with plenty of other players having contributed to their 17 goals so far this season (in the league). Will they manage to secure a point or three in Rome this weekend?
Also, don’t forget that we have Early Payout market available on this match as well. Read more about that here.
AS Roma – 3.25
Draw – 3.15
Inter – 2.32
Liverpool – Man Utd
Anfield, Sunday @ 17:30
The last match we’ll look into in this article is the highly anticipated match between Liverpool and Man Utd. The hosts started the season off well, but they’ve now lost three matches in a row, against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea. Losing to Man Utd at home would really hurt, and Arne Slot will be hoping to see a positive reaction from his team after their return from international break.
A win for Liverpool means they will be 8 points ahead of Man Utd only eight matches into the season, while keeping the pressure on league title favourites Arsenal. Slot’s team are currently second favourites to win the title, ahead of Man City.
Man Utd have had a rough start to the season. They actually looked quite impressive in their season opener against Arsenal, despite losing 0-1, but only 3 wins in seven matches is not what they had been hoping for. The club made many signings this summer, however, and you’d expect players like Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo to grab a few goals once they get accustomed to their new surroundings. Can they manage to secure a big win at Liverpool this weekend?
Liverpool – 1.62
Draw – 4.30
Man Utd – 5.10
We certainly have an exciting weekend of football ahead of us – enjoy!
