Club WC 25 Final Preview

The Club WC semi-finals provided plenty of entertainment, with Chelsea beating Fluminense 2-0 before PSG dominated Real Madrid in a massive 4-0 win. Now, it’s time to shift focus to Sunday’s big final, where the Parisians have to accept the role of favourites. Let’s take a closer look at the big match!

Chelsea – PSG

Metlife Stadium, Sunday @ 21:00 CET

Chelsea

Results so far:
Group Stage: Chelsea – LAFC: 2-0
Group Stage: Flamengo – Chelsea: 3-1
Group Stage: ES Tunis – Chelsea: 0-3
Round of 16: Benfica – Chelsea: 1-4
Quarter-finals: Palmeiras – Chelsea: 1-2
Semi-finals: Fluminense – Chelsea: 0-2

Chelsea won the ECL this season, beating Real Betis 4-1 in the final, and now they find themselves in yet another final, albeit against a more formidable opponent. Maresca’s Chelsea have performed well in the Club WC, and although critics might argue that they haven’t played against the best teams, one shouldn’t forget that their opponents PSG lost to Botafogo earlier in the tournament.

Both Colwill and Delap are back from suspension, while Reece James came on as a sub in the semi-final, so should be ready to make an impact in the final as well. Maresca will have a few big decisions to make, especially up front, where new arrival Joao Pedro will hope his two goals in the semi-final ensures another spot in the starting eleven. Jackson and Delap are both also hoping to get the nod for the starting eleven for the final. Caicedo is still a question mark ahead of the match.

Chelsea will definitely need to be at their best to be in with a chance to beat PSG on Sunday, but with the likes of Palmer, Joao Pedro and Neto in the squad, nothing is impossible.

PSG

Results so far:
Group Stage: PSG – Atlético Madrid: 4-0
Group Stage: PSG – Botafogo: 0-1
Group Stage: Seattle Sounders – PSG: 0-2
Round of 16: PSG – Inter Miami: 4-0
Quarter-finals: PSG – Bayern Munich: 2-0
Semi-finals: PSG – Real Madrid: 4-0

PSG have been a dominant force in European football lately, first beating Inter 5-0 in the CL final before hammering Atlético Madrid 4-0 in their opening match of this tournament. Even Real Madrid couldn’t stop Luis Enrique’s team in the semi-finals, where the Parisians once again dominated and won by 4-0.

Lucas Hernandez and Pacho are still out with suspensions for PSG, but otherwise the squad is looking fit and ready for the final. Dembele has had an incredible season, and he’s expected to start alongside Kvaratskhelia and Doué up front for the French team. Further back, their captain Marquinhos will lead the line as usual, with Donnarumma, Hakimi, Mendes and Vitinha also key players.

Our prediction here is a PSG win in this Club WC final, but we’ve certainly seen bigger upsets in football than Chelsea winning here. Either way, we can definitely expect an entertaining match with two teams that both love scoring goals. Who’s going to lift the trophy in this first edition of the new format?

We’ll find out on Sunday!
