Key Clash in the Race for the CL spots

With March approaching, the Italian league is entering what is often described as the “business end” of the season. The battle for European places is intensifying, and Sunday’s headline fixture between Roma and Juventus at Stadio Olimpico could have direct implications for the top four.

Ahead of matchday 27, only four points separate the sides. Roma sit on 50 points (16-8-2), while Juventus trail on 46 (13-6-7). Following their CL exit to Galatasaray, securing European football for next season has become absolutely crucial for the Turin club.

Roma in Form – But Can They Beat a Direct Rival?

Roma have built strong momentum in recent weeks. A 3–0 win over Cremonese, a 2–2 draw away at Napoli and a 2–0 home victory against Cagliari mean the Giallorossi are unbeaten in their last three matches. At the Olimpico, they have been particularly impressive, posting a 5-0-1 record in their last six league games.

Defensively, the capital club have been among the most consistent in the division. Just 16 goals conceded in 26 matches is the best defensive record in the league, and across their last six home games they have allowed only two goals while keeping four clean sheets.

Going forward, contributions have come from several sources. Matias Soulè leads the internal scoring charts with six league goals, while Donyell Malen has struck five times in just six appearances. Bryan Cristante has been pivotal in midfield, both in defensive structure and build-up play.

Still, one question remains: do Roma have what it takes to defeat a direct top-four competitor? At times this season, that has proven to be their main challenge.

Juventus Under Pressure After European Disappointment

Juventus arrive in the Eternal City following a dramatic and physically demanding week. Their European elimination against Galatasaray after extra time means they must quickly reset ahead of another crucial league fixture.

League form has been inconsistent. The Bianconeri have suffered defeats against Inter (2–3) and Como (0–2) in their last two outings. Overall, they have managed just one win in their last six matches across all competitions.

Kenan Yildiz leads the team’s league scoring charts with eight goals, while Jonathan David and Weston McKennie have contributed important goal involvements. However, efficiency in front of goal has fluctuated, and defensively the team has struggled to control matches.

Recent head-to-head history offers Juventus a slight psychological edge. They have recorded two wins and three draws in the last five meetings, including a 2–1 victory in December when Francisco Conceição and Loïs Openda found the net.

Team News

Roma:
Evan Ferguson remains sidelined with an ankle injury, and Matias Soulè is a doubt. Mario Hermoso, Paulo Dybala and Stephan El Shaarawy are also unavailable. Bryan Cristante and Evan Ndicka are expected to start.

Juventus:
Emil Holm (calf), Arkadiusz Milik (calf) and Dušan Vlahović (adductor) are ruled out. After 120 minutes of European football midweek, some rotation is possible. Kenan Yildiz and Jonathan David are expected to lead the attack.

Who Will Win Roma vs Juventus?

Roma currently look like the more stable side, particularly on home soil. Their defensive structure combined with in-form attacking players gives them a slight advantage.

Juventus certainly possess the quality to punish mistakes, but both the physical and mental toll of midweek European action could be a factor.

Our prediction: Roma 1–0 Juventus at 7.50.
