Title Charge Continues for the Gunners

Poor Wolves. The Midlands club have a meagre nine points after 26 league matches. Just one win all season for the Wolves. The question is whether Rob Edwards & Co will leave the pitch empty-handed again against title-chasing Arsenal on Wednesday — or could Arsenal trip themselves up once more in this exciting PL fixture?

Arsenal still top the league standings and have the chance to extend their lead over the nearest challengers when they face bottom-placed Wolves. Arteta’s men won the reverse fixture 2–1 — far from convincing, as the victory came via a stoppage-time own goal after Wolves had equalised late.

Arsenal with their eyes on the title

We could talk at length about Arsenal’s “glass nerves,” but the reality is that Mikel Arteta’s side come into this match off the back of a comfortable cup win over Wigan, where four goals inside half an hour secured progression. While some are whispering about a historic trophy haul, the main focus remains the PL and the club’s first league title in over two decades.

League form has been solid: just one defeat in the last eleven matches. However, a draw against Brentford allowed Manchester City to close the gap, and Arsenal still have difficult fixtures ahead — including a tricky trip to the Etihad later this spring.

Away form has been slightly mixed, with three wins from their last eight league matches on the road. That said, Arsenal have dominated teams in the relegation zone, winning their last 14 such encounters by an aggregate score of 40–4.

Historically, Wolves have also been favourable opposition for Arsenal: nine wins from eleven away league visits, plus scoring in 36 consecutive meetings between the clubs.

Wolves playing for pride

The hosts also progressed in the cup at the weekend after a hard-fought win over Grimsby, but their league campaign has been tough. Wolves sit bottom and are 18 points from safety with limited games remaining.

Rob Edwards’ side did earn a valuable point recently against Nottingham Forest after weathering heavy pressure, but their home form is worrying: just one win in thirteen home league games this season.

The task doesn’t get easier against Arsenal. Wolves have lost nine straight league matches against the London club since 2021 and have generally struggled historically against the league leaders.

Team News

Arsenal remain without Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz through injury, while their captain faces a late fitness test after a knee knock. Several defenders could return after being rested, and Bukayo Saka is expected to start following his recent comeback.

For Wolves, Hwang Hee-Chan is sidelined with injury, and Toti Gomes is also unlikely to feature. Edwards may rotate slightly after the cup match, with several players pushing for starts.

Odds and Tips

Everything points to Arsenal entering this match as clear favourites. Form, history and league position all suggest an away win. Wolves are largely playing for pride and to avoid unwanted records, but that lack of pressure could make them unpredictable.

Arsenal know every dropped point could prove decisive in the title race. Controlled, disciplined away performance may therefore be key to securing three important points.

Tip: Arsenal show why they are rightful title favourites. Away win without conceding — for example, 0–2 at 5.90.
