Title Hopes in Manchester or Liverpool?

We’re only two days away from a match that could change things up at the top of the PL standings, with Man City hosting Liverpool on Sunday. Arsenal, currently 6 points ahead of Man City and 7 points clear of Liverpool, will definitely be keeping an eye on this fixture, and so are we! Let’s take a closer look at this weekend’s big match from England!

What to expect from Man City

Guardiola’s team had a rocky start to the season, but they seem to have found some consistency of late, with their 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund this week being their 3rd straight win (in all competitions). They’ve been fairly reliable at home this season, having won 4 of their 5 home matches in the league, though they did lose to Spurs in their opening home fixture back in August. Falling even further behind Arsenal at this stage of the season could spell disaster for Guardiola’s side, and they’ll be desperate to grab a win against their title rivals from Liverpool.

There aren’t too many injury worries for the home side leading into this match, with Kovacic the only player confirmed out. Rodri is slightly uncertain, but has returned to training after having been left out midweek due to a hamstring issue.

What IS worrying for Man City and Guardiola is the amount of goals coming from anyone else than their star striker, with no other player having scored more than once in the league for them so far this season. That’s a huge worry, and Guardiola will hope to see a bigger output from players like Foden, Cherki, Silva and Marmoush.

The Manchester side are currently 1.88 to win on Sunday, with Liverpool big underdogs at 3.75.

PS: Don’t forget that we also have Early Payout on this match, with Man City currently at 1.82 and Liverpool at 3.60.

Arsenal will have already played by the time these two teams clash on Sunday, and depending on that result, Arteta’s men could be as much as 9 points ahead of Man City with a match to spare by kick-off time. Arsenal are away against surprise team Sunderland, though, so both Man City and Liverpool will be hoping for an upset early Saturday evening in that fixture.

So, moving on from Man City, let’s take a closer look at Liverpool, who are also desperate to close the gap up to Arsenal while leapfrogging Man City this weekend!

What to expect from Liverpool

Much like Man City, its been a tough start to the season for Slot and Liverpool, but they seem to have picked up the pace a bit lately, having also beaten Real Madrid in the CL midweek. Their 2-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend means they’re coming into this fixture from back-to-back wins, knowing another win here will see them surpass Guardiola’s team in the PL standings.

Unlike Man City, Slot have a few injuries leading into this match, with Frimpong, Alisson and Leoni out, but Isak could return for this one after his groin issues, though he won’t start. Salah, Gakpo, Gravenberch, Ekitike and Chiesa are all on between 2 and 4 goals so far in the league this season, and Slot will be hoping to see his team add to their 18 goals so far in the league this season, though their defensive stats are a worry. Liverpool have conceded 14 goals in their opening 10 league matches this season, which is too leaky for a team competing for the title.

Liverpool would love to go into the international break ahead of Man City in the standings, and a win tomorrow would really bolster their title ambitions, while giving Guardiola something to ponder over the next few weeks.

Predictions

Considering the defensive woes of Liverpool, and the overall attacking quality on display in this fixture, over 3.5 goals at 2.18 seems interesting, while both teams to score at 1.44 also seems likely.
