Will the Gunners stumble in Birmingham?

With Liverpool struggling massively and Man City having stumbled a few times as well, Arsenal visit Aston Villa this weekend hoping to further strengthen their chances of winning the title. Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking for 3 points in Leeds. Let’s take a look at two of this weekend’s big matches in England!

Aston Villa – Arsenal

Villa Park, Saturday @ 13:30 CET

Aston Villa

Arsenal, currently at 1.44 to win the PL title, have a difficult match ahead of them this weekend away at Aston Villa, with the hosts from Birmingham having won 6 matches in a row after their defeat against Liverpool. Before that match, they also beat Man City 1-0 thanks to a goal from Matty Cash, so this team is certainly capable of beating the best of the best.

Martinez missed Aston Villa’s last match, and could be out for this one as well, which is a big loss for the hosts. Barkley and Mings are also still out with injuries, but other than that the squad is look healthy. Watkins scored twice in their last match, a 4-3 win over Brighton, with Onana and Malen scoring the other two goals. The latter is Aston Villa’s top scorer at the moment with 4 goals.

Bizot will probably put on the gloves again for this one with Martinez out, and Cash, Konsa, Torres and Digne is a likely defensive setup ahead of him. Kamara and Tielemans are expected to start, with Malen, Watkins, Buendia, McGinn and Rogers all hoping to be in the starting line-up as well. Can they cause any problems for Arsenal this weekend?

The odds of an Aston Villa win here is at 4.20, with under 2.5 goals at 2.08.

Arsenal

Arsenal have been very impressive this season, and the league leaders are 5 points clear of Man City before this weekend’s matches. Winning this one wouldn’t just be impressive in itself, Aston Villa away being a tough fixture, but it would also put pressure on Man City and Chelsea before their matches a few hours later tomorrow.

Arteta has his captain back in action now, but will have to do without yet another defender this weekend, as Mosquera suffered an injury midweek. Rice also had to come off with an injury in that match, but should be fine. Saliba and Trossard are doubtful, while Gabriel Magalhaes and Havertz are out.

With so many injuries defensively, Arsenal fans will be hoping to see their team take control of the match and attack from the start, hopefully grabbing an early lead which might take some of the pressure off in defense. Eze has been in great form lately, with Saka, Merino and Gyökeres also big goal threats. Beating Aston Villa away would be a huge win for the title-chasing Arsenal, but it won’t be easy!

A win for Arsenal currently stands at 1.92, with both teams to score at 1.88.

Leeds – Liverpool

Elland Road, Saturday @ 18:30

Leeds

Leeds are currently 17th in the league, and they’re big underdogs against Liverpool this weekend, despite having beaten Chelsea in their midweek match. Bijol, Tanaka and Calvert-Lewin scored the goals in their 3-1 win over Maresca’s team, with the latter also grabbing a goal in their 2-3 defeat against Man City a week ago.

Their win against Chelsea will certainly give them some hope, and the result moved them out of the relegation zone ahead of their match against a Liverpool team that are having a difficult season.

Sadly for Leeds, Calvert-Lewin is a doubt for this match, as is Nmecha, while Daniel James and Sean Longstaff are out. Liverpool might be having a troubling season, but they’re still a tough team to beat, so Leeds will have to be at their very best tomorrow if they are to secure the points.

A Leeds win tomorrow is currently at 3.85.

Liverpool

Arne Slot has been under a lot of pressure lately, but he seems to have the confidence of the Liverpool board, for now at least. Liverpool are currently 9th in the league, behind Man Utd. Only 7 wins in their first 14 matches has all but ended Liverpool’s hopes of defending their title, but they’re still not far away from the top 4.

Bradley is hopefully ready for this match, but Frimpong will be out. Other than that, Slot doesn’t have too many injury worries, and is expected to be able to count on Salah, Isak, Wirtz and Gakpo to provide the chances and hopefully goals. A win will take Liverpool up to 25 points, meaning they’ll be back on track in terms of a top 4 finish.

A Liverpool win is currently at 3.85, with both teams to score at 1.60.
